Recommendation |
* Chemical restraint is a medication used outside the patient's standard treatment plan to control behavior or restrict movement in an emergency. (e.g. to control dangerous behavior when physical restriction is needed), while medications for behavioral management are part of ongoing treatment to reduce symptoms and improve cooperation without restricting movement. Both have roles, but chemical restraint use is reserved for the most urgent safety situations.
